Microsoft introduced a new creative way to search for images without typing a single word using Visual Search. Bing’s Visual Search provides user with categories of images such as Entertainment, Famous People, Sports, and Travels etc. and allows you to refine your search by going through more detailed catalog of images. On the left-hand side, you have tabs, clicking which you can rearrange your images in a way which you find most comfortable.
As I am travel-freak, I naturally clicked on Travels tab and chose Travel Destinations. Bing provided me with visually appealing, alphabetically-sorted catalog of images. As a curiosity I went to the images starting with alphabet T, confident that Taj would be listed there. Bang!!! I was shocked to find out that Taj Mahal was nowhere on the show. I tried to find by its location – Agra, but even that turned out to be futile.
Pyramid is to Egypt is what Taj is to India. It hardly makes sense that a monument of such a massive popularity in the world is not part of Bing’s travel destinations category. I have seen people coming to India only to see, The Taj Mahal, The Ganges and the Himalayas. Keeping in mind, Taj Mahal is a part of new sever wonders of the world; it strikes me even more odd not to include it in the popular travel destinations category. It would be interesting to see what factors were used by Microsoft to include images for each category. However, considering that Visual Search is still in its beta stage, I certainly hope that Bing takes care of this in final release.
